There are not many mosquitos here on the beach but all it takes is one to keep you awake all night. Last year I kept a fan on all the time but still got bit once in a while. Using a mosquito net with a fan is useless as the mosquito net stops the wind that keeps you cool and the fan blows the mosquito net so it does not hang right. This year I am using a round center support mosquito net and a fan in combination as shown below. The fan is hung from the celing and blows the air INTO the net, the net spreads the air from the fan out softly and evenly. It is working wonderfully, I sleep much better now that my mind knows it doesn't have to stay on guard for mosquitos. I used chain to hang the fan because the living conditions here are very basic and looks don't matter. But chain is over kill (it was my first one) heavy cord or some kind of woven fabric would work just as well and look much better. Another option I haven't tried yet is to put the fan inside the net, that should increase the air flow (but eliminate the nice even air) and make it look like a regular mosquito net. The one above is basically a prototype but good enough for me not to do any more on it. |
