Just to clarify .... In B.C., the new regulation is that you can be out of country for 7 months. Special permissions can be obtained if the period of absence is longer.

The person in question here obviously did not check on his medical coverage when he chose to be absent from Canada for such long periods. His error. The Canadian medical plan does not have the luxury of supporting great numbers of ex-pats who reside for the most part elsewhere in the world.

The 3-month rule is there to prevent the exact situation that this man is in.

We Canadians in Mexico should know that if you're planning to live n Mexico for more than 7 months a year, then we'd better have Mexican insurance.
