I spoke with MSP personally a couple times before I left BC last November. As I was told, every 5 years a BC resident is allowed to be out of the country for 2 years & retain full BC med coverage without the 3 month wait period. You have to keep paying your premiums during that 2 year period. If you stay out of Canada for more than 2 years then you lose immediate coverage but can be reinstated anytime BUT with the 3 month wait. I've heard that there is some kind of interim insurance you can get for the 3 month period, not sure though.
