homemade mosquito trap

This is a homemade mosquito trap that I make every summer - works like a charm. Picture above is a demonstration and shows you how it's supposed to look once made. Be warned - this isn't a 100% solution, but it's pretty damn close! Sometimes a couple still might zing past your ear or bite you, but I learned how to make these while living near the Everglades and they'll get about 90%-95% of them. Just make sure to trade them out now and then. Items needed: 1 cup of water 1/4 cup of brown sugar 1 gram of yeast (Other alternatives to this listed in my comment reply to needmoarbass) 1 2-liter bottle HOW: 1. Cut the plastic bottle in half. 2. Mix brown sugar with hot water. Let cool. When cold, pour in the bottom half of the bottle. 3. Add the yeast. No need to mix. It creates carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes. 4. Place the funnel part, upside down, into the other half of the bottle, taping them together if desired. 5. Wrap the bottle with something black, leaving the top uncovered, and place it outside in an area away from your normal gathering area. (Mosquitoes are also drawn to the color black.) Change the solution every 2 weeks for continuous control. Hope this helps - and enjoy your almost mosquito free summer! http://www.reddit.com/r/lifehacks/comments/1erqev/anyone_have_any_hacks_for_mosquitos_or_their_bites/ca3c3o4 |
