Hey there Kathy, I understand your frustration. I have been painting professionally for thirteen years here in Mexico and coming from Toronto I had a myriad of places to go to and buy my ready stretched canvas. You are living in a relatively quite little fishing village that has an art problem: There is no real outlet to purchase 'supplies' locally. I don't think $250 pesos is unrealistic for a 30 x 40 inch stretcher considering the cost of wood plus labor. If you want someone to stretch your canvas for you ( assuming you have it ) you would have to pay for that too. My recommendation to you would be to learn how to make your own stretchers and stretch your own canvas,......or go to an art supply store in Vallarta ( of which there are a few good ones ) and stock up,...or, go with someone locally that you can work with for a mutually satisfactory business agreement. I have been buying 5/8" sheets of press board and just stretching canvas right over that. Love it. Hope this helps. Joe. |
