To answer Dhyana, when I last checked, Alaska did not offer this humanitarian aid service (They told me they send aid directly when there are disasters, etc, instead) Have they changed that policy, does anyone know? In any case, it cost me $50 (oversize, overweight charge) to bring a bike, and there was room for lots of other stuff in the box. Once you get it through the check-in, you don't see it again till Manzanillo - and there, if you are donating it, you are all your luggage can be picked up by a volunteer through La Catalina. So it's a win/win, as you get to use the bike for the whole season before it gets auctioned off. And there is one more bike in La Manz, cutting down on the congestion and air pollution in our little village! |
