Temazcàl in Los Ingenios

We went to the temazcàl yesterday in Los Ingenios. The location is great, at the edge of the jungle on the far side of the tiny village. After a chokra-cleansing ceremony, hot lava rocks were taken from a fire, and put inside the dome-shaped adobe-style temazcàl. Water with herbs like sage was poured on the hot rocks periodically creating a nice aromatic steam. The sweat lodge was followed by a lovely snack of a salad made from vegetables that Pre-Hispanic people's would have eaten, and a dessert of an array of indiginous sweets including an amazing chocolate mousse containing chill. Well worth the 400 pesos per person! They will be doing it again in 2 weeks.
