Jimmy (son of Bob and Cissie) came by the beach bar this evening with a quadcopter. The idea was to do a video of Greg's house but it turned into more than that as you will see below. I didn't edit this video so there are a couple minutes of places where it doesn't do much but then changes to a scene where it does.
If you click on the You Tube it will take you to the You Tube page. There are a few ways to view this, the method with the highest clarity is to go to the little gear in the bottom right corner and select 1080p HD. Once it is playing go again to the bottom right corner and click full screen. It may take some time to load but the clarity is really something. The link above is the lowest resolution.
I have been following quadcopters for a couple years now and was pretty excited to see my first one up close and even got a chance to fly it! Jimmy is my kind of pilot, first thing he does is send the quad over Greg's house then he takes it up to 500 feet, so high we temporarily lost track of it! Which is why it stays in one place for a while around the 3 minute mark. Next he takes it over the ocean at about 5 feet off the surface and then even lets me and Greg try it, quite brave IMO. Mind you this quad is transmitting live HD to the iphone on the controler that Jimmy is holding via wifi! he can see what the quadcopter is seeing in real time! Just think of that next time you go into the next room with your laptop and loose the connection.
Here are some links from my bookmarks of quad stuff I have saved in the past couple of months which show some of the things they are doing with quadcopters.
Very cool. Let's not get paranoid about this. There are bigger issues.

Here are a couple more of my favorites that didn't show up on first look cause some people (incorrectly IMO) call them drones or quadra or hexa. IMO Drones are things that kill people (there are now quadcopters that can do that too). There are more links than I thought I had and these are only from this year, I wonder if I have cyber love? This is a vast and quickly changing topic and there is certainly a lot more information out there, if you find something unique please send me a link. (note: where it says Reddit, that is a separate link to the discussion and the source of where I found the info to begin with)
CINEDRONES ARE AWESOME Reddit There are a couple shots of Careyes at the 45 second mark. I have seen the full video of Careyes, I think on a real estate site but can't find the link right now.
Methinks they invade your private space.......... rooftops , swimming pools, etc........ I do not like them......Did Greg know his house rooftop was being filmed............I wonder how Cissie would feel if video of private guests at Coconuts by the sea in Boca were to be published on the net.
Yes, she knew before Jimmy got here. There are several good links on the privacy topic in some of the links I posted, quadcopters are certainly not without controversy on a couple of issues.
Gotta agree with Charley on this one. The use of these little machines has become a major invasion of privacy in many parts of the world, as well as a documented danger to commercial aircraft around airports.
I would like to see some citations on those claims of "major invasion of privacy" and "documented danger to commercial aircraft around airports". I am not saying they are not just would like to see citations. e.g. I would consider the government a major invasion of privacy, quadcopters....way, way behind if even on the map.
I would like to try my hand at using one for real estate, this is a state of the art example of quadcopter promotion. Priced at 85 mil, sold for 70 Sources
Check out California's new legislation on the invasion of privacy issue. As more jurisdictions pass laws to restrict the use of these toys, we'll some citations plenty.
What the hell does the government's invasion of our privacy got to do with anyway?
By the way, I hear Santa Claus is not delivering the gifts tonight ........ his new unmanned drone is. Merry Christmas!

Easy Larry, it is just a discussion. Here is a quote from the one article you linked to "FAA says pilots have reported 15 close calls with small rogue drones near airports in the past two years". How many flights have there been in the US in the past two years? "On any given day, more than 87,000 flights are in the skies in the United States". 87 thou times 730 days = 63 million flights. What percentage of 63 million is 15? Zero to the power of ten.
Here is a link to an article about California legislation. You can see that it talks about legislating before it becomes a major problem. If you would have posted "use of these little machines has (the potential to) become a major invasion of privacy (issue)" (parentheses mine) then I probably would not have questioned that part of your post.
I was using the government invasion of privacy as a comparison to that of quadcopters. It was the most extreme example that came to mind, I could have used the paparazzi. Here is an interesting link on privacy. It is much more than just someone checking out your back yard.
Statistics (sadistics?) and probability for an air accident with a drone? It will only take one accident with hundreds dying for the FAA to come down on that one.
Privacy - a neighbor using a drone to check me and my garden out on my property after I have spent megabucks planting privacy screening versus the government doing the same. I'll take the feds thanks.
Maybe the quads could be considered skeet. Bring them down with a slingshot in Mexico, a shotgun or rifle in Canada or an AK type weapon in the US.
Daniel thanks for the advise on how to view this. The beach sure is empty. Neal

Your welcome Neil. Here are a few of the HD screen shots I mentioned (not resized) with your brand new house included. Right click to save image as or go to the vid on HD and make your own! By the way, Las Aves (top left) is recently back on the market! Titled, close to town and motivated seller! (just had to work a little)
