This is a very important project for the whole area.

The project requires an airport not far from the planned hotel

Why do you think this project is very important for the whole area?

Chalacatepec aka The new Cancun has been in the news for quite sometime.

Interesting to Google Chalacatepec

For me it feels like the Costa Alegre is getting ready to follow the heard of sheep doing
the same thing different area. People are looking for unique and innovative experiences
and seeing as Costa Alegre is unique I would like to see something other than yet another
5 star resort with golf course. I have always felt that Villalobos really blew a good thing
out at Tenacatita. He had a real Mexico beach scene with one road access (gives control and
security) and a place to build some nice vacation accommodations. End result would be
a mix of comfort with an authentic Mexico experience. The natural beauty and warmth of the
people of Mexico is not being sufficiently appreciated.

Chalacatepec is located about 40 minutes drive (?) North of La Manzanilla.

You got that right Daniel. While there is no doubt that there is some economic benefit to the area surrounding mega tourism projects, the real financial benefit goes to few, usually foreign corporations. In the end, what is left is a cultureless void, where the low paid local population is priced out of their own marketplace.

There is also a substantial development underway in Cuastecomates. In its first phase, underground water and sewer lines have been installed. The road down to and along the beach is to be surfaced with 20 cm of concrete. Phase two will finish the road project and add a sewage treatment plant.

The goal is to make Cuastecomates Bay the second disabled accessible beach in Mexico; the first is on the East coast at Playa Carmen.

There are additional plans for holding Special Olympic's activities in the bay, putting ramps into the water, a place for moorage with a dump station, etc.

We shall see...

Came to La Manzanilla last March for the first time, loved it and coming back again this March. One of our exploratory road trips was north about 30 miles then down a long semi paved road to an enormous abandoned resort. Heard back in La Manz that it was closed by Federales and American DEA but looked like construction work of some sort was going on around the area. Is this the same place? Love reading this message board from Alaska. Is the school online auction happening again this year?

No, Bob, you're thinking of El Tecuan, which is closer to La Manzanilla and also has some rumours of resort development. You can Google it to find some interesting history, or check the message board archives.

The big resort project in question is up past Perula and was announce by the state government back in 2011, so nothing new there. Supposed to be an international airport and new highway too, but I see no signs of either on google earth maps. As with many things of this nature, they are waiting for an improved financial outlook.

Look again Larry. The landing strip has been in for at least 2 years...it can't be seen from the road but I found it on Google Earth 2 years ago. It looks about 8-10 miles north of Perula and close to the ocean. We think it is by Los Alamandas (sp) which now has a gate across the road to stop access.

If it's not for the new airport, then it's for someone who has money as it is a huge runway.

That certainly is an airport. Big sucker too. Bring in some serious planeloads of touristas.
