Here's a moth I found in my garden on Saltspring Island B.C.

Yet another gorgeous moth finds its way onto the board, this time from northern climes. This beauty is a giant silkworm moth (Saturniidae), specifically the Polyphemus Moth

Ooh! Beautiful and this link was kind of interesting. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antheraea_polyphemus
If I understand it correctly your moth only lived a week as an adult. I was kind of hoping that a silk moth so close to my home might produce silk but no mention of that. I heard that the gypsy moths that have devastated some of the trees in B.C. were brought in by hopefuls that this hardy moth would be able to produce silk in Victoria.

Love all these pics and people who help identify them!

Hey Marcia... Teresa... I'd say you're lucky, Daniel, the board moderator and all-round swell fellow, hasn't caught you posting here without an email address. But, should you want to post again, you need to provide this (dem's da rules, I'm afraid). You'll notice this posting (and all others) has a little white envelope beside my name, meaning I have complied. Go ahead, just click on it and see what happens, I dare ya... LOL!

Again, a great photo of a rarely-seen moth. Gracias for sharing...
