heading to La Manzanilla...

Posted by Karen Q on January 28, 2015, 12:06 pm

A small family group of us will be staying from 2/10 - 2/19, and I'm seeking a little info about what to bring. Is there snorkel equipment available to rent? Is there a place to buy olive oi/coconut oil or should I try to bring my own? Any place to buy pesos or should I do that here in the US before leaving or at an airport? Are we going to have a fabulous time? Many posts on this site have been very helpful. Thanks for any input.

No idea about snorkeling gear but I think so...someone else will answer that one...
Lots of coconut oil here. And olive oil too.
I always buy some pesos at home to bring but also get some at the ATM at the airport before grabbing a cab to la manzanilla.cab is 650 pesos and a tip ...
No ATM here ...in Melaque though. A twenty minute bus ride away.
You will have a fabulous time here. Lots of live music, awesome food, great people ..both locals and those of us who come to share in the beauty of this area...and the beach is amazing!
Cheers,
Sally

Yes, my daughter was able to rent snorkeling gear in La Manzanilla. Don't remember where exactly but she just saw it in town when walking by and asked.

It is easier and you get a better rate from your bank in the US for pesos. You also save the fee you have to pay Banamex (unless you bank with the US bank that owns them). Additionally, if you ask you bank to send you smaller denominations or 'mixed" the merchants like it because when you use the ATM, you get mostly $500p bills. LM is an all cash economy and many of the vendor/merchants can't break a $500p bill for a $30p purchase.

I think you can rent snorkel stuff at CATO. They will also take you on a trip.

LM is an easy place in which to have a fabulous time.

Better rate in the US? I doubt it. I got 14.60 per dollar at ATM in Vallarta area today.

I stand corrected. The rate today with BofA is 14.32 with no additional fees. So Karen, if I gave you any false information, please excuse me.

If you use the ATM in Melaque just take some of your 500 peso notes to the teller's window and ask for cambio (change). No need to take a number and wait if all you want is change. Just walk up to any unoccupied window.
