Marguaritas
Posted by Marnie on February 2, 2015, 11:17 am
We are new in town with only 8 days to spend. We are serious researchers looking to find the best marguerita to enjoy at the end of a day. We need help in cutting through to the worthy ones. So far, Pedro's has been the best as we liked the hefty glass and presentation. Any suggestions to help us in our research??

They make great ones at Don Raul's, across from Lora Loka's on the beach.

Love Yesi's margaritas at Don Raul's. Have a shrimp quesadilla while you are at it. Delicious! I also like the margaritas at Palapa Joe's.

I can't recall ever having a bad margarita in La Manzanilla.

I agree with Jane. Palapa Joe's are very good. Try the margaritas at Rincon on the beach (not open for dinner). Be careful if you order a second one, since they are powerful. Also, you have to try the margaritas at Artis. Anaz is known for his chocolate margarita, but his traditional fare is excellent too. He uses Centenario reposado instead of the usual white tequila. Have fun.

maybe we should have a blind tasting marguarita bake off. I'll share my bullet proof recipe. I'm old and I only like marguaritas made my way, so I'm always annoying bar tenders asking them exactly how they make them. So rather than annoying bartenders who have a hard enuf job as it is I usually drink mine at home.

Oops, Anaz is known for his Chocolate Martini, not margarita. My mistake.

El Cato, the restaurant at the south end of the beach next to the fishermen's co-op, makes great margaritas in big goblets. Their fish dishes are fabulous too.

My Prefered Marguarita For One Ingredients: your favorite tequila 1 1/2 to 2 shots Jarabe (syrup) of organic Agave (get at Hawaii near the coffee isle, amber color, a decent substitute for diabetics as it has lower glycimec index) 1-2Tbl. mixed well with equal amount of water. Juice of 1 lime 5 or 6 ice cubes Direction: Mix tequila, lime juice, jarabe sweetener to taste. Pure over lots of ice cubes and serve in a short glass. Sip, do not gulp unless you prefer to be drunk. Fancy service: Use martini shaker with 5-6 cubes of ice and shake about 35 times and serve in a martini glass Garnish with lime slice or nothing. Answers to FAQ: No there is no mix nor Cointreau or other orange flavored liquor. Simply the simple syrup mixed with equal amounts of water ( mix well.) Not having to haul, drink or pay for that sugar loaded liqour is its own blessing. Not advisable to use the locally available Agua Miel. Its dark, tastes horrible and will ruin the taste of your otherwise perfect Marguarita. Recommendations: Limit oneself to 2. Drunk on tequila is not the planet's prettiest sight. It is obviously easier to overindulge in a martini glass. But one can feel fairly classy and sophisticated while indulging in one. Make a small jar of Jarabe and water, shake and keep in fridge for emergencies. Always buy a handful of limes when going to a store.

Finding a good drink at your favorite place is like asking what the weather is going to be like next week, I have had one in just about every place in LM who serves them and one thing is for sure, they are not always consistant. Figuero's and Don Raul's and Martine's are consisting better than most places; I will not name names, but there are several places whose Margs that are almost undrinkable. They use cheap booze and poor contents and their mixing is very ho hum. You really have to taste and tell but caution, don't do all you tasting in the same day!!! Cheers

Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions. This rainy weather is perfect for continuing our research. All that sun and beach seriously cut into our testing time!!

Will you publish the results of your research in a peer reviewed journal? I'm anxious to read it as this topic is central to the health and well-being of so many of us here.
