Just drove over the land bridge tonight at 11pm, and water is flowing over it. I would say it will be gone by morning.

Just as I thought... As of 9 am, the road is washed out again, with a fast current flowing from the lagoon to the sea ....

Is not it possible to put culverts?

I was told by an engineer that the flow out after being blocked for so long is way too strong even for culverts. So then the $$$$dirt and culverts would be out to sea again and again .....proper bridge does it just like the arroyo at other end of town.

I am not an engineer, but if the 2 or 3 culverts were installed when flow is small (at the end of dry season )would not that allow for permanent flow all year like it used to be? and keep even level in lagoon.
Yes the bridge is an answer too :bigger than the one on the south side........dont know if the ejido would spring for it........
may be recycled army bridge......
let it flow let it flow

Charley, your are correct and very logical....... which doesn't often happen. Were they to set 3-4 large square culverts (4-5 ft high) at the level of the flow when the mangrove is open and then put a road on top, the natural sand dam would not know they were there. The mangrove would be free to do it's thing.
From what I understand, a number of years ago, they set culverts, too small and too few and too high above the natural grade of the outflow and then after they washed out into the bay, said, "See I told you so, they won't work.

This would be much cheaper than a bridge and less ascetically unpleasing.

Lest folks want to chalk this up to "typical Mexico" it happens all over the world and particularly in the Norte Americano.

Hey Ani Mac:

You have been on here several times wanting people to complain to La Huerta so they will build the bridge. Have you ever put any effort toward the project yourself by going over there for a discussion about the problem. It definitely would be a plus for the town and lagoon if they would build the bridge.

There is a big difference between building a foot bridge and a vehicle bridge. Mucho pesos, so who pays for it? The ejido wouldnt and La Heurta would likely need state or federal funding to undertake such an expensive project. But they can't even fix an ambulance engine. Yes, a bridge would be a great benefit to the few foreigners who live over there, plus the Mexican tourists who sometimes camp there. But, do the math. It likely won't happen.

this brings to my mind when a few years ago I was pleading with you people down there to help save our end of the beach from a huge environmental impact and I received the kind of shit that you now apparently have at your end of the beach. I say to you what you said to me then …"deal with it" I've been to town and it smells like a cess pool…karma is a b###h huh…just sayin

For the past 5 years the only reason there is a road is because Poncho of Fiesta Mexicana and I collected money from the gringo residents of the road to keep replacing the gravel ...last year 70 loads...none of the other lot campground owners would contribute as they said it was the delgados responsibility. Yet comes the holidays and hundreds of vehicles use it. This year a neighbour went to the delagado and with him called La Huerta and were told there is money there for a bridge. This year I refused to contribute along with some others to try to get the bridge instead of the temporary gravel ...the day before Xmas the road was put in proving how valuable tourism is to all. There are hundreds who live along this road not only gringos but huge Mexican coops of camping ...all who support many vendors and services in town ....so Kim what else would you suggest we try???

Toll road to help pay for the materials that keep getting washed away???? then everyone who uses it would be contributing. hard to do, but hey, just putting out an idea.

My only suggestion was that if you heard they have the funds then why do you not make a appointment with La Huerta and have several people from town go there with information on getting the bridge built. Who can accomplish the task of building it and the cost. I totally agree that it is stupid not to have a permanent bridge and every yr. have to replace the gravel to cross.
I doubt if anyone in Mexico has ever heard of a levy only for the purpose of raising money for the bridge.

This whole thread begs the question: "What is the source of the pressure to build a bridge to connect to the beach road?" Hmmmmmm. Pave paradise, put up a parking lot...
