Stunning Art-Dance-Music Perfromance at Artis Gallery

A watershed moment was reached in La Manzanilla last night during the Modern Art event at Anaxasi's Artis Gallery.

A mixed media dance performance that would have been the envy of any major city in the world, woke this little town up!

Choreographed by Mayan Henze to wonderful music (would love to know the name), the piece began with a dancer dressed in white with white face paint, rolling on a rectangular white board.

The board was scattered with numerous balls of what looked like baseball-wads of rolled-up newspaper. The balls burst under the dancer to reveal red and green paint, which coloured her white outfit and the board.

The white floor board was then picked up by two helpers and hung on the wall, and the dancer continuned interacting with the painting by rolling over it with a blue soccer ball between her body and the wall.

The dancer's movements were beautiful and understated, and the end result was that she almost completely merged with the painting she was creating.

Kudos to Mayan, Anaxasi, and all who made this amazing performance happen in our small corner of the world!

I took some photos, but could only capture a little of the feeling.

That looks so totally over the top fabulous. Sorry we missed it but we did see a great belly dance performance accompanied by terrific food at Muy Rico. The town was hopping last night..

The guitarist who played at the Artis show was amazing... Sorry again, I didn't get his name...

Here is a photo I took of him playing after the 'dance-painting' was finished. I love the big shadow on the wall.

Here is a photo of Mayan handing the ball to the dancer ...whose name is Zulema - beautifully done!

And Mayan - we will go to any of your dance performances - you have a talent that should be continuously on display!

I have been told by some people that La Manzanilla lacks 'culture'. I think not!!
