White trail in the bay

Has anyone else seen the long trail of white something apparently dumped in the bay both yesterday and today? Our house is up the hill so we get a really good view. Both days it slowly washes into the beach. Today it's further south--you can probably see it now, slowly heading towards the south end of the bay/beach. Hope it's not some improper dumping of something unhealthy!!??

Someone said there was "mal agua" (jellyfish) up at Boca this weekend. Lots and lots. They blow around in the wind

I would need to see a photo to be sure but considering the size of the
waves today it could just be sea foam on the current, its not unusual.

Unfortunately it wasn't waves. I watched it for quite a while on Monday (which was calm) and it spread out as it came closer. Didn't see where it ended up on Tuesday. Hopefully something harmless. I'll keep an eye out today.

Hola. Yesterday Adan from Bambu Bar said that he thought the white band in the bay was caused by jelly fish, millions of them. This was reported to him by the fisher men who have seen it close up.. So I'm with Sparks as to the origin of this phenomenon. And you aren't just seeing things, at least this time, Charley. Cruz

A few years ago Lew L and I were sailing in the bay and crossed over a mass of the larger clear/white jelly fish. We stopped and did some counting. There were 10-15 per cubic meter and we could see at least 4 meters down. We sailed the length and width of the swarm and estimated (Lew in addition to being the captain is a physitist) the school to be a kilometer square. You do the math...... They would be very visible from above.

Thanks for the responses! I wondered if it could be the jelly fish, since we saw many, many of them washed up on shore on Sunday, the day before I saw the white trails. If so, hope they go/stay way out to sea. There would have to be billions of them to make the size of trail I saw. None that I saw today.

If our observation is anywhere near correct, we sailed over 50 million of them

Did a little research and think this type of jelly is called Salpa Aspera. Alive, it forms long chains and then breaks up into millions of individual pieces as they die.
