While we were there with a group this past February, one of our group stumbled in the street, fell, and required 50+ stitches in a knee he had just recovered from replacement 3 months prior. There is a wonderful doctor in town, who runs the farmacia in town, who made house calls to check on him; he went in to a bit of shock afterwards and required some close monitoring. That being said, there are no cardiac care facilities close by. Other Americans I have talked to here in the states who who spend a lot of time in Mexico have paid for some type of insurance, which would be beneficial should a person require being air ambulanced out.
PS Can't wait to come back. February can't get here soon enough.
