LED TV died, what now?

Our four-year-old Toshiba 40" LED TV stopped turning on a few days ago. If anyone would like to take it to try to fix it or to get it fixed, it is yours (it might just be something like a fuse). Otherwise, we need advice as to how to responsibly dispose of a large amount of plastic, LED screen and electronics. Tossing it away doesn't seem right, but what's the alternative? Minds more creative or informed than mine know. BTW, the replacement TV we bought today weighs in at under 16 pounds for the same 40" diagonal screen. The TV itself is 5" diagonal smaller that the older Toshiba with its much wider frame. The Toshiba weighs about 35 pounds more than its replacement. Technology just continues to innovate and advance toward smaller and lighter. | ------------------------Re: LED TV died, what now?

Ideas ....check on disposing of it or donating it in Guate where they may have such recycle options. Or getting it checked to find out if it is in fact a fuse or not....so if it is not a fuse, you aren't just passing it on to someone else not knowing, who may not dispose of it properly & responsibly as you desired. | ------------------------Re: LED TV died, what now?

I have a better idea that is "don't buy one to begin with". {The "TV" after all is only a Computerized Tranquilizer} "NUMBDOM" the Kingdom of the Masses I.E. "TGP" that stands for "THE GENERAL PUBLIC"

I just had a TV die... Haven't found any brand better than another... They all seem to suffer on the beach. We just bought an LED 40” at Walmart in Manzanillo for 3900 pesos (Haier). Great for movies, hope it lasts... | ------------------------Re: LED TV died, what now?

dave, would you begrudge us looking at a DVD of a movie now and then? That is the only purpose we own a television for. We haven't had cable or satellite or any other form of broadcast TV since we moved to Mexico full time in 2005. | ------------------------Re: LED TV died, what now?

As recommended, I spoke with Felipe about the TV, and I delivered it to him today. He will likely get a donation to the school and it will be recycled properly (if not fixed). | ------------------------
