SEWER REPORT Part 2

For part 1 Click here If we all donated up to $50-$100, we would be able to fix our broken system now. We will need to develop funding money for on-going maintenance and will continue to ASK the government for help, but if we want to stop waste water from bubbling up in the streets when the “gringo season” starts, we need to do the work now. Please donate what you can now. You can donate to Tierralegre “Playa Limpia Initiative” or I have set up a PayPal “Your Clean beach” account, which makes donating easy. All funds from either place lead to the goal of having a clean beach and town. Please click on the PaPal logo below: I have done some research and the average cost for sewer in the USA is between $40-$80 USD/ month. We get what we “don’t” pay for and I for one am tired of the diseases in town and polution of the clean ocean, only because our system needs repair and maintenance. I am the treasurer of the Sewer Committee and I believe in an open book policy. I will inform anyone of our donations and our expenses on the message board or in person. We may be waiting for a time for the Engineers Without Borders, as they are not responding quickly to our requests for action, so far. They also need to raise funds to come here. In the meantime we are working toward a meeting with those in Tamarindo who are saying they want to help us. More will be revealed as we take those steps involved for a proper, formal meeting with Tamarindo and the Ejido president, our Mayor, our Sewer Committee, interested citizens in LaManzanilla and those from the new administration of LaHuerta who are interested in a functioning sewer system and the resulting boost in tourism. Please help us get the gantry made, so we can install the repaired pump, while extracting and inspecting the old pump that has been disused for many years. Yes, each time we repair something, we find the next thing to do. And that is the way things get done.

Thanks for this detailed report on what's happening down there with the sewer system, Mary Jo. I already clicked on the PayPal link and sent a contribution to the cause - only wish I could afford to send more. Although only a regular visitor for a few weeks in the "gringo season" over the past few years, LM has always had a big spot in my heart since I first started visiting in '82. Happy to send a few pesos to help this pueblito with such an urgent need. FYI, you mentioned posting a photo of the pump in Part 2? | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

Thank you Pablo for your donation! The photos are coming, afraid it was MJ operator error. | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

You can see the fotos of the pump before and after the repair in part 1 of the SEWER REPORT. Thanks to Daniel! | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

Seems Jose and Frank are the same person, they have the same IP address and never use an email that works. Kinda sad I have to take my time to remove all their sarcastic remarksand block their IP address just cause they haven't got the balls to be who they are. Thanks for all your efforts to help improve our sewer system. We also used the Paypal function to donate money, and it was easy. We hope others will do the same until we reach the goal, making our beach environment clean and healthy. Thanks again! | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

Very glad to see this posting continue and "bubble up" (like sewage?) into the conversation again. I thought it a bit odd that there were so few comments to date given it's significance to the town and in light of other times when the subject arose here. I second your hope, David, that others will choose to help out with this cause. Mary Jo, perhaps you could give us some idea on how the new tally is doing from time to time? | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

Just to keep things in perspective........ unless I missed something, there is no detectable pollution in the ocean from the sewer. When they test it, they don't find anything. As a disclaimer, I have my house hooked up, pay my water bill and have and will give money for the sewer system. I don't like seeing it bubble up from the manhole covers. | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

To my knowledge no one is testing the ocean nor have any test results ever been published. It really isn't critical until the Lagoon opens up, which it hasn't done in many months. Also very light rain year so far (very little bubble up from the manhole covers), and the sewer pump is in the process of being put back into service. Looking better at this point, thanks to the hard work of several people, to whom I say thank you, good going! | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

Hi d: as I recall about a year ago, someone tested water in 2 or 3 spots and there was no coliform (sp) bacteria. That said, I don't remember what I had for breakfast. | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

Yes, they did test, it was manhole and Lagoon water and the results were mostly contaminated. Val's test kit was only part of what was needed to test of sea water. | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

I am curious about where the pumped waste ends up. Is there some type of Drainfield set up for final treatment through the soil or does it just go into the lagoon with all the Crocs? | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

It gets pumped up across the highway to a large septic field. It actually works well as long as the pump works.

John, the sewer liquid is pumped out to a "treatment plant" in Los Injenos. This place also needs some attention, but it is not as critical at this point. | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2

I am donating to this as I have had the best of times in La Manzanilla, love that town, beach and community. It makes no difference to me if the water samples show contamination or not. I recall the vendors having to set up near bubbling sewer, if this helps, then great! Here's to more donations Mary Jo, thanks to all who helped on this. | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Part 2
