Daniel - replacement webcam
Posted by Lindsey on October 26, 2015, 3:11 pm
Hi Daniel Please can we chip in to get you a new webcam? We were among the hundreds of thousands (millions?) around the world (we are in Europe) shouting at you to get off the beach when the webcam fell over and you righted it. You terrified so many with your valour!! It would be far easier for you if we could chip in to a Paypal account or similar so you could buy the webcam of your choice. That cam and this message board has introduced so many to La Manzanilla and we would very much like to help you get that camera back up. Please advise. Thank you! | ------------------------Re: Daniel - replacement webcam

I would be willing to chip in for this project, too. I'll watch the board for updates. | ------------------------Re: Daniel - replacement webcam

The village could put up several video cameras to capture the ambiance of the village of Lamanzanilla and the view of Bahia de Tenacatitta!! Gofundme.com | ------------------------Re: How about Crowdfunding Project

I went through quite a battle getting the beach cam accepted, it had to be back so as not to intrude on peoples privacy. I don't know how more would be accepted. I see some on Earth Cam that totally violate peoples privacy, I don't think most of them know the cam is there. Its a touchy subject. | ------------------------Re: How about Crowdfunding Project

Letīs start with chipping in for one webcam and maybe if there is any surplus cash, Daniel can decide how best to spend it to benefit La Manzanilla? | ------------------------Re: Daniel - replacement webcam

I, too, would happily throw some pesos into the Daniel beach cam fund, but I somehow figure there'll be more than enough people to cover this cost when Daniel's got the time to deal with that. Maybe there's even a spare one up here somewhere in "stuff land" with your name on it already, big D., just waiting to be transported your way. What I'm really hoping for is that soon someone there will have the energy/means to start and administer a donation fund/Paypal link and whatever else so I can give directly to the town. Perhaps the ejido is organizing one? Or the school? I feel so helpless being "up here", like so many others. Being able to send down some dinero to where it's needed most would sure be great. Know of a particular local family or neighbour in dire need right now? Maybe I could then send directly to one of you folks "here" on the board to forward on to same? Any info or advice on this front much appreciated, compadres...

The second paragraph is a wonderful idea, please start a new thread for it. Pick someone you know to be a fair minded honest person and send money to their account then post means for others to do the same. Your designated person can distribute the funds as they see fit, fair and square. | ------------------------Re: webcam/donation fund?

On the other hand........ what we have had for the past years of the Message Board has worked well. There were many of us who would leave some money or a bottle of something with The Moderator to cover the cost of the necessary equipment and monthly hosting costs. There was usually a seasonal reminder posted. Same thing happened last year with the advent of the Beach Cam. It appeared and was set up and we all enjoyed it. Same thing can happen again. I appreciate folks wanting to help cover the expense and that can be done in an informal way. If you want to help the community, there are already ways to do that through the Church, La Catalina, Bookstore and ??? | ------------------------Re: webcam/donation fund?

As one of the many folks who'd never heard of La Manzanilla before Friday, I would also love to contribute to rebuilding costs for the community. The webcam coverage was amazing, and this message board was a great reassurance when I woke up worried about all of you on Saturday AM! So happy that everyone is OK there. And looking forward to seeing the differences in the beach when the webcam is back up & running. We were watching at my office (in Ontario) and caught the bit where Daniel was doing a beach tour If you set up a way for people who were not previously connected to LM to contribute to your community, I'm sure you will see some results pretty quickly | ------------------------Re: webcam/donation fund?

(edit to previous post) Realized that "looking forward" to the changed beach scene was not quite the right terminology - sorry. I was very near the path of a cyclone once when living in Western Australia and the landscape changes were fascinating. But we were also very fortunate to have minimal damage at our place. I do remember the isolation as our road was closed on both sides for about a week. Very surreal. Hope that everyone in LM has some friends or family to keep them company as you recover. | ------------------------Re: webcam/donation fund?

Does anyone out there know how to set up a GoFundMe site with the money going to one of the local La Manzanilla citizens for distribution? | ------------------------Re: webcam/donation fund?

https://www.gofundme.com/questions/ The person who sets up the GoFundMe page will be the only one who can easily withdraw the funds to their bank account. They are US-based but also support CAD; I am not sure if you could withdraw directly to an account in Mexico. Seems like there are quite a few Americans and Canadians connected to LM so it would be great if someone could be nominated to arrange the page and distribute the funds as needed. | ------------------------Re: webcam/donation fund?

I believe all it would take is withdrawing the gofundme funds with a debit card @ banamex in Melaque... | ------------------------Re: webcam/donation fund?

I am glad to donate, but I know that GoFundMe takes 8% (I learned the hard way recently during a fundraiser).
