We bring a suitcase or two down every year for the schools under the Humanitarian Aid allowance. Make sure you give yourself enough time at the airport to go through the line to a ticket agent to obtain your free baggage tag. You can't do it at the check in kiosk or online in advance, unless you want to pay the extra baggage amount!
Sometimes WestJet wants to see some documentation of what it is for, sometimes not. We have always been able to claim ignorance when we didn't have any, and had no problem. Last year Julie @ La Catalina provided us with a letter to show.
On arrival in MX we have always stated the items are (gifts) for local Mexican friends, and the schools and teachers. The officials always thought it a nice gesture.
Being a proud nation, sometimes the words 'Humanitarian Aid' don't always go over well with some border officials, therefore we have not used that term in the past. Perhaps it is different this year after Hurricane Patricia. What are the experiences so far with 'Humanitarian Goods' being brought in? Please let us all know. Thank you
