I received email questioning what taxis were "Airport" taxis.
My understanding is any taxi you take FROM the airport has paid a fee for the right to pick people up there. This fee gets passed on, of course, and the entire trip is charged at a higher rate. The shorter you make the "Airport Taxi" trip, the less you will pay.
As stated above, getting to Chiuatlan as cheaply as possible and switching to a bus is the way to go. That's what I do but I travel light.
When buses aren't available, negotiate with a local taxi.
Because there is no other (public) option for getting off the airport grounds, unless you can arrange a "private" solution, you are stuck with the taxis.
Therefore the tradeoff between money and convenience should be considered.
