Dorinda, I certainly agree that freedom of speech is one of the points most of us value here on the 'board', but, when, after three positive comments from three individuals about what's going on in Canada now, when, after those comments, the first thing out of chris usa's 'mouth' is:
"sounds like a mentally ill country" . . .
well, it's a little difficult to remain 'nice'. chris usa is not, it would seem to me, wishing to engage in a civil exchange of ideas; rather, it seems he simply wishes to judge, to condemn, to insult . . . and 'why?' one might ask. Why is he so sensitive about three Canadians making positive comments about their own new government; why does he feel compelled to shoot them down, to ambush them out of nowhere?
So yes, Dorinda, I believe in civility, I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in all those good things, but when a backhander comes out of the blue (am I mixing my metaphors here?), one is left stunned, and, perhaps, wishes to snap back.
I suppose we might stretch him out on a psychiatrist's couch and coax the anxiety and anger out of him, soothe his troubled brow, but it's not always so easy to summon compassion for ones abuser.
