same here Bonnie, first hurricane. I don't have a car but I imagine it would not be safe to be on the road during this. Interesting that there's still power | ------------------------Re: so what are we supposed to do

Well, I have been advised to get in more water and food...and when the wind starts up...they say later today, close all the windows and just hunker down! I just came in from a walk and the river is not flowing yet! How high is your house Bonnie? Lisa, you should be fine except for the water coming off the hill making the roads a mess...but that's later! Keep in touch as power allows, Buena suerte! | ------------------------Re: so what are we supposed to do

I think that I'll lock the kitties in and head to the shelter in my part of town (south), which is the primary school, simply because I don't want to be alone in the dark. Or could we all get together at the safest house and ride this out together? Please let me know before the power goes out for good. Phone is 351 5395, and I'm running out soon to put money on my cell: 315 107 3037. Thanks. Suerte! | ------------------------Re: so what are we supposed to do

Best of luck to you all . My place on the hill is built like a small concrete box . If I were there I'd stay in it and ride it out with a blue bottle and some peanut brittle . | ------------------------Re: so what are we supposed to do

We had a similar experience just 5 years ago, a cat 4 hurricane called "jova". I believe there was around 12 in of rain in 1 day or so and wind over 100 mph, but the direct hit was around el tecuan just north of la manzanilla. My house is on the mountain and I had a couple of panels broken by falling limbs,a couple of tiles moved around on the tile roof, 2 trees lost and a land slide on the north of the property. I actually drove with friends to the city of Colima and stayed there 4 days until they reopened the bridge connecting the states of Jalisco and Colima at Cihautlan, the town you go through after leaving the manzanillo airport. Good luck!! Make sure you have matches, candles, flashlights food and drink. You may want to put all patio objects in your house or storage so they do not fly around when the wind hits. If you can collect some of the rain water with secured garbage cans etc. that may help because once the electricity goes out you will have no way of pumping or moving water around in your house, depending on what kind of water system you have. | ------------------------Re: so what are we supposed to do

Sorry for the repeat posting but important. C.B. Bottom rooms on high ground with eastern facing or no windows. Western facing windows will have the glass blown out and no protection from the rain and wind. There is the forecast potential of 30 foot high storm surge. That would put the entire lower town under dangerous surging flows. Do not go out in these forecast winds as you could be blown across the ground and flying debris kills people. Our thoughts go out and we will be there in December to help if still needed.

Do not go to the schools. They will be under water in a worst case scenario. Leave town and go inland. | ------------------------Re: so what are we supposed to do

Just wanting to keep abreast of what is happening in my favorite place in Mexico. Thoughts are with everyone there that you will all be safe from Patricia. | ------------------------We were in Jova and David C's advise is great

If you are staying then follow Dave's advice. SENDING GOOD THOUGHT TO YOU ALL WHO ARE THERE!

I was also there in Jova which actually was only a catagory 2 when it hit...I would say not just that you may want to move things inside...DEFINITELY DEFINITELY..MOVE EVERYTHING INSIDE...THINGS WILL BE FLYING ALL OVER OUTSIDE...ROOFING, WOOD, GARAGE CANS, AND IF IT IS REALLY A 5 WHEN IT HITS IT COULD BE EVEN CARS AND TREES FLYING AROUND. REALLY EVERYONE...do not underestimate this..it is worth the work to take extra precautios....then if it was not necessary...so what... the suggestion about barrels of rainwater is a good idea, although there probably will be lots of water in the arroyo for flushing toilets!!! Good Luck...Be Safe....thinking of you all. Linda Mandala | ------------------------Re: so what are we supposed to do

If you can't leave, this is good advice. If you can go inland, please do. The news up here describes this as the biggest hurricane every recorded. I tell you that only to hope you either leave or take every possible precaution if you have to stay. This is not category 2 or 3...it's 4 or 5.

Might I suggest if you have any plywood or wall board etc make a safe room . Remove all mirrors / glass or other loose objects . Throw a mattress up if necessary to make cover . Blankets , stacks of clothes , anything for protection . You need to be able to have some cover to run to . Of course food / water and lighting . Or better still race south out of the path of this monster . Now . | ------------------------
