Donations

A friend is looking to make some charitable donations to the community and is wondering what is needed and how to properly distribute it. Are there any organizations in town that handle this type of thing? Thanks in advance. | ------------------------Re: Donations

We'd like that information, too! | ------------------------Re: Donations

We have sent money to friends in need using XOOM. They charge $4.99 USD for up to $2,999.00 USD. There may be additional charges if done with your Credit Card. The money can be picked up at: Caja Solidaria La Huerta Av. Veracruz 175-D Entre calle Sinaloa y Lopez de Legazpi Barra de Navidad, Jalisco It has been the best option for us. Are there better options? We need someone to help coordinate our contributions to the community. Ron

Lisa All efforts are important at this point, and I'm not sure of the best method for fulfilling the immediate need(s). It is amazing what has already been accomplished by this resilient community. GoFundMe charges 7.9% for their coordination, which might not be hugely important to facilitate timely contributions, but I'm not sure if someone has come forward to manage that account. I've had issues with PayPal and am reluctant to use that method of payment, and again someone needs to manage that account. We've already sent pesos with XOOM to help with needs for individuals that we have identified, but then again we need someone to manage a broader effort. I'd love to help with your efforts, let me know how I can help. Ron

youcaring.com charges less; 2.9% I believe, and is very effective. Still someone needs to set it up (pretty easy) and link it to a bank account or some way to receive the funds--though youcaring.com will hold it until an account is set up I think. Someone or a group has to determine where/how to spend the funds. What about Catalina Foundation or another local organization. I think Catalina Foundation has a U.S. based nonprofit in case that's helpful.

Lisa, I very much support the idea of the Paypal link/button as was set up for the sewer fund. I've responded under "donating funds to the town" thread with my thoughts. If this can be set up fairly quickly, there would be such an immediate rush of cash and a big relief to those so desperate to give to the cause. "Strike while the iron is hot", as the saying goes. I realize it may be a lot to handle bookkeeping-wise, but with offers of help from Ron and probably others willing to advise and assist your efforts, I hope this proposal of yours works out, Lisa. I know of a couple of people coming down soon from "the island" and so I can send some dinero with them to distribute to certain families we know there, but I'd still like to contribute a bit now as well. | ------------------------Re: Donations
