Such terrible news. Somehow in my focus on damage reports & the rebuild and fundraising, I completely missed this news of the grounded Vessel. | ------------------------Re: potential oil spill

Other reports say they have started installing booms The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) reports that the shipping company responsible for the ship "Los Llanitos" stranded on the borders of the states of Jalisco and Colima after Hurricane "Patricia", started the installation of barriers containment to prevent spillage of 11,484 liters of oil and 489 m3 of diesel on the ship in their fuel tanks. Plans are also under way to remove both oil and diesel in case the ship breaks up. It's not likely the ship will ever move again. | ------------------------Re: potential oil spill

What a stupid mess. Ship is ordered to go south and it goes north. Company who owns the ship and the Captain should be in line for serious penalties. The ship is in a favoured area for fishermen out of Barra and La Manz Hopefully they get pumps in and empty the tanks of oil and diesel asap. It was so avoidable. | ------------------------Re: potential oil spill

I have been Coast Guard licensed for vessels up to 100 tons. I am still having a hard time understanding how the Captain of this boat made such a decision with so much information at hand telling him and direct orders to head south. The company better have good insurance for the cleanup and damage costs. As I recall the currents there are heading north to south which could be good for us and bad for Barra. | ------------------------Re: potential oil spill

In some ways it appears similar to the Bahamas Hurricane last month where the MV El Faro departed Port straight into the storm. | ------------------------ |
