Thanks to the Mexican government, who is paying locals to clean the streets. Anyone can work up to 4 hours a day for maximum of 10 days. Judy H | ------------------------Re: Great village effort

This is such a beautiful photo, Judy, in so many ways. I am seeing it as an art piece, especially - just keep going back to look at it - so glad you have not lost your photographer's eye.

Although I applaud the ex-pat community for their sincere efforts to rebuild our pueblo, the true fact is that the majority of the effort commenced the day (Saturday) after the storm and was institued by the local community. For instance, on Saturday morning, Calle Lorenzo Cardenas was impassable. By noon, cars were maneuvering through trees and downed power lines. On Sunday, the majority of limbs and such were in piles. And the work continued every day thereafter. Again, all contributions to La Manzanilla deserve our gratitude, just don't overlook all of the hard work of the local community on their own.

I was pretty impressed with how quickly the Federal and regional governments responded in force. Power was up in a two days with portable generators and the major roads open even faster. I think the Febs paying people to clean up is a twofer. First it gets the town cleaned up and second it puts money into the hands of people so they can deal with their individual needs. All government programs should work so well. Over the past few years I have developed a great respect for how hard the locals are willing to work and also their resourcefulness. What is needed now is resources. In other words money. If you do not feel comfortable donating to one of the organized groups help out somebody you know. I can guarantee every extended family has some one in need. | ------------------------Helping families you know

Neal, You make a very good point. As the expats arrive, each may want to help out some individual family (or families) in their circle. Viva La Manzanilla! continues to put on roofs, and provide some basic needs for those who may not have other connections. With the various ways people are helping each other out, I believe all who need it will eventually get a hand.
