Humans of La Manzanilla: Martín & Zuma

I took this photo of Martín the other day, with his son Zuma. You may notice that one of Zuma's eyes is closed. A rare kind of infantile cancer was discovered in that eye, and it had to be removed. Zuma seems very healthy now, and is the sweetest boy you can imagine, but it has been a very worrisome time. It's heartening to see that both Martín and Jennifer have an inspiring positive attitude, in the face of their son's illness and of the destruction at the restaurant. | ------------------------ The Restaurant

Some good news - Restaurant Martín many re-open this Wednesday...stay tuned! Martin said he lost over half of the equipal furniture, not to mention the damage to the palapa. I took this photo of Santiago up on the roof, fixing things.

Two other neighbors and myself, at least, are showing up Wednesday night, hoping for dinner at 6:30. We are bringing our own chairs! If your hopefulness changes, I'll expect a rotten tomato hurled from the balcony!

Oh! We wondered about the aftermath of the storm at Martin's. I hope Zuma is fully recovered now. That would be extremely stressful, even without the storm's destruction. We've enjoyed many wonderful evenings at Martin's restaurant and wish him and his family all the best. | ------------------------Re: Humans of La Manzanilla: Martín & Zuma

Martín says things are going a more slowly on the reconstruction, so the Restaurant won't be open until at least Monday. | ------------------------Re: Humans of La Manzanilla: Martín & Zuma

I think it was only 20 day's ago that I read he was not going to open at all, so not so bad news. Best to them in the process of recovery, the only thing that seems to really help is to stay in the manyana mind set. It's all going to be ok eventually, and sooner than we all think eventually will be in the past. | ------------------------Re: Humans of La Manzanilla: Martín & Zuma
