ATM

Hello, Could someone tell me if there is a reliable ATM in La Manz. I heard a rumour but it seemed too good to be true. | ------------------------Re: ATM

Yes we have used it several times . Never walked away without cash yet. My understanding and from my experience it is not working with U.S. and Canadian cards (unsure of why) Would not give us access to Canadian funds with Canadian cards. We tried 5 or 6. But with a local (Melaque) Banamex card worked fine. | ------------------------Re: ATM

Thanks, Shaun. That tells me what I need to know. Do merchants and restaurants accept credit card or is it still a cash only situation? Roberta | ------------------------Re: ATM

The ATM antenna blew away in the hurricane, sad to say. No word yet on when it will be fixed or replaced. | ------------------------Re: ATM

Roberta, it's still cash only pretty much everywhere in town | ------------------------Re: ATM

The town is as always cash only but my response was post Patricia based. Yes the ATM is working now the antenna was repaired. I am unaware of any business in town who would accept a credit card or debit card. | ------------------------Re: ATM

one solution is to get pesos from your bank before you come. you usually get a better rate. you can also (usually) order smaller denomination bills, which the merchants love. | ------------------------Re: ATM

Imagine yourself in a time machine, going back 50 years. You could be anywhere .... there is no ATM, no credit cards, no electronic receipts, no guarantees on anything, no return policy. Scary, yes, but fun too. Every day is an adventure. Grab a spanish phrase book and laugh a little ... at yourself. Just bring cash with you. No hassle. The bonus is that you are not contributing 3 bucks to City Bank New York, or whatever Banamex is these days. | ------------------------Re: ATM

Good point Larry-- it would be great to hear from some of the gringo pioneers tell of their La Manz/Tamarindo/Costa Allegre experiences from the 70's/80's... | ------------------------Re: ATM

Yes, Roberta, the La Manz ATM machine is functioning again but, to my knowledge, it still only accepts Mexican bank cards. And today it ate a friend's Intercam (peso) card, so I will only trust it with my Banamex card for the time being! | ------------------------
