But perhaps these are photos of Revolution Day (11/20), rather than Independence Day (9/16)? ;-) | ------------------------Re:Dia de Revolucion

As David would say "auto-correct". It was Revolution Day, but when I asked Hector, who cleans windows and cars and the Melaque Banamex, exactly which revolution we were celebrating (there have been a few) he didn't know. | ------------------------Re:Dia de Revolucion

My understanding is, this is the first day of 10 to commemorate the Virgin Of Guadalupe. On the 12th of December, around 10 or 11 at night, we will have a huge sort of spiraling fireworks display, I can't recall the name of it, but it usually takes place between the square and the church. It is well worth staying up for. | ------------------------Re:Dia de Revolucion

The Mexican Revolution began on November 20, 1910, and ended 10 years later with the overthrow of dictator Porfirio Diaz and the installation of General Alvara Obregon as president--hence the kids are all dressed up to look like Pancho Villa and his minions. Yes, the Virgin's long celebration ends on 12/12, followed by the posadas from 12/16-12/24. Viva Mexico, where there is always something to celebrate! | ------------------------Re:Dia de Revolucion
