After last New Year's Eve, we had three of these hazardous lanterns land very close to our palapa. It was pure luck that one didn’t start a palapa fire. As well, the paper lantern construction of wire tangles up where it lands, and is hazardous as barbed wire to animals and sea life. I wish these things never made it to the stores in la manzanilla. They are cheaply made ( think Cheap labor factories) and the fire starter in them is noxious. Traditional lanterns are wet waxed paper bags with small candles, floated on water. Much safer and gentler on the environment. Can't we just look up at beautiful stars to make new year wishes to our loved ones? | ------------------------Re: Cantoya Candle Globes Cause of Fire in Lagoon

Two years ago New years eve we asked the man of a family to please move closer to the water to light off his hand held rockets because we were worried about our new palapa. He gave us a "look" and moved down 10 feet. We hung around and sure enough a rocket landed on the palapa, we put out the fire with our hose as they looked on and then they moved another 5ft away and proceeded to light the rest of his supply of rockets. We ended up pretty much trapped at home that night. | ------------------------Re: Cantoya Candle Globes Cause of Fire in Lagoon
