Flying Over La Manzanilla

Many will remember 'Ike' Levy, who came down to La Manzanilla to volunteer in the reconstruction after Hurricane Patricia. It turns out Ike is an experienced pilot, who actually flew his own small home-built RV6 airplane from all the way from Taos to ZLO. Ike invited me to fly with him in his amazing little plane a couple of days ago, and it was stunning. Our route took us over the coast from Manzanillo to La Manzanilla, before we turned and flew over the mountains to Colima and the volcano. We made perfect landing at Colima Airport before flying back to Manzanillo airport. It was an amazing trip with a fantastic pilot, and I took some photos to prove it. Our bay with La Vein and Blue Bay Resort in the foreground and La Manz in the distance: La Manzanilla La Manzanilla again La Manzanilla Beach under the wing: Over Tamarindo Golf Course, with La Manz in the distance: Over the mountains on the way to the Colima volcano: Closer to the volcano: We were allowed to fly no closer than 10 miles from the volcano: This is the approach to a textbook landing at Colima Airport. Manzanillo city with ththe old town in the bottom left- you may see the big blue fish sculpture if you zoom in: We went up into the ZLO control tower - this shot is Ike with Air Traffic Controller Arnoldo Thanks again to Ike for an extraordinary experience!

This was stunning. The third picture down made me visually realize how much La Manzanilla has grown. It is simp,y one of the most diverse and beautiful places. You were fortunate to happen this experience. | ------------------------Re: Flying Over La Manzanilla

Thanks for your wonderful photos, David. My aircraft responds with fingertip control. Therefore I find it impractical to take good photos while piloting! The Colima Control Tower actually told me we could fly within 4 miles of the Volcano. As you recall, I first noticed that the volcano was actually erupting when we were 20 miles away. Therefore, I decided that 10 miles away was close enough! Anyone who wants a ride in my plane and will share expenses, and provide transportation round trip to ZLO should contact me. I don't have a car to get there! | ------------------------Re: Flying Over La Manzanilla

Can you take more than one passenger? Like two? If so we would be super interested.

Wow, David. Thanks for sharing these incredible shots! I'm on my way to La Manz in just one week! But, although the scenery will be great, I don't think it will rival your shots. Incredible. May I share the one of La Manz on my blog? I can see Casa Gaviotas in it!!!I'll give you photo credit.
