To Duane, should that be your real name since did not include your email address as required.
I will not defend Art Walk ...... It doesn't need defending.
But I will correct your assault on my wife and I, Art Walk participants who you attack.
Both of us artists and long time participants in Art Walk. The only point you make that is correct is that we are foreigners.
However, we are not "yankee carpet baggers". We are Canadians. "Carpet baggers"? If we make any return on the time we spend creating and selling art here, we are indeed fortunate. We do it for the love of creating, the fun of the day, and the knowledge that what we do has a positive spinoff for the community.
Neither are we here on tourist visas. I, like many of us here, are permanent residents, who have a vested interest in our adopted country. We live here 6 months a year, own a home here and pay our local taxes.
Both of us have personally engaged with local youth in order to share our skill and knowledge with them. The students we have worked with have enjoyed the experience. If any of the locals look on us as "cultural imperialists", that would be news to me.
