Just received this from the Dogwood Initiative people about this new threat to the west coast of Canada...and really the entire west coast. Hopefully people will be ready to fight this.
The Chinese government is demanding the right to buy Canadian oil companies, with a pipeline and supertanker port on the West Coast to send raw bitumen to China.
You can help to expose this sneak attack on our sovereignty by donating today.
We thought the fall of the Harper Government meant an end to pipelines being forced on B.C. by a hostile regime. Little did we know Beijing was just biding its time. With Prime Minister Trudeau safely in office, Vice-Minister Han Jun visited Ottawa to publicly unveil China’s demands:
Lift the restrictions on ownership of Canadian companies by China’s state-owned energy giants, allowing foreign takeovers in the oil patch.
Build a West Coast pipeline to give China secure access to Canadian resources.
Together we’re going to fight this, but I need your help to get a campaign off the ground in a matter of days. Please click here to donate what you can.
Why the urgency? China is attaching these conditions to negotiations over a new Free Trade Agreement with Canada. Prime Minister Trudeau flies to Beijing next month and we need him to tell Chinese President Xi Jinping that a pipeline is not on the table.
As if the stakes weren’t high enough, a pair of pro-China think tanks have launched a coordinated lobbying campaign. Led by old-guard Liberal insiders, they’re pressuring the new government to sign a quick deal on China’s terms – even if it means turning the B.C. coast into a global sacrifice zone.
We need to sound the alarm before this trade deal is rammed through. Please pitch in – $50, $100 or $250 – to start pushing back. If enough Canadian voters speak out against China’s strong arm tactics, our government will have the strength to stand up for us at the bargaining table.
With determination and hope,
Kai Nagata on behalf of the whole Dogwood community: 343,619 and counting.
P.S. There’s been almost no news coverage of this story, despite its deep implications for Indigenous rights, Canadian sovereignty and the future of the B.C. coast. We’re going to change that with a principled but hard-hitting campaign that Ottawa can’t ignore. You can help us with a donation today.
