Today marked the 4th successful rehoming of La Manzanilla dogs I arranged to come to Canada. The puppy who had the hernia is living in Little River, Rosey from Figaro's is living on Denman Island and today Nube went to Hardy Is. near Powell River with a lovely couple whose white lab passed in December. I am keeping Chico the chihuahua as the third member of my La Manzanilla pack. Next year, if any of you are interested in putting extra dogs on your return tickets, I will have crates and can assure you that there will be someone to pick them up in Vancouver, Victoria or Comox. From there I will find a home for them. Next year I hope to be very active in local pet adoptions in La Manzanilla, support Valentin in his shelter and since I have a car, help with vaccinations, worming and flea and tick medicines and emergencies. I sure hope Julie is back with Cisco's Amigos to do the spay and neuter clinic. Having learned a lot from this experience this year, I have great admiration for her style of doing things. No committee. She is in charge. No consensus with meeting after meeting getting nothing done except talk, talk, talk. I was happy to drive 47 animals to Melaque for spay and neutering 4 days a week, the last month I was there. Also there were 7 more that I took in December. Pro Animal Melaque sponsored 4 and 3 people La Manzanilla folks sponsored the 3 females from Figaro's. Two of them are now living in Canada. I recommend supporting Cisco's or Pro Animal Melaque. They recently had the state of Jalisco come with 3 vets and spayed and neutered 184 dogs and cats in 3 days.
I hope Phase 2 of our spay and neuter project from the Figaro fundraiser posts an update as to what they are accomplishing and provide an accounting of the 11,000 pesos they have. The accountant has returned to Canada and the person with the money is leaving in May. I hope any remaining pesos go to Pro Animal Melaque or Beto Vigil, veterinarian in Melaque as there is a great need among the pet owners in La Manzanilla for emergency funds.
