Objective: Bahia de Tenacatita is the Most Plastic-free Bay on the West Coast of the Americas
An Experimental Methodology:
Litter grabbers are available to borrow at the following stores in La Manzanilla.
Alexandra's (Tienda de La Playa) Aborotes Fanny (across from the casino) Lydia's Mariscos Deli
Please adopt an area of your choice for the time you have available. To check out a grabber, ask for "un mano mechanico de Viki", and provide your name and email address or phone number. Check out a grabber for a day or more.
Return the grabber when you are no longer able to employ it on at least a weekly basis. You may be contacted to return it if there is a heavy demand. That will be a joyful day for the bay and all who love and depend on her!!
The grabber works best with a bucket for depositing litter. Empty the bucket wherever possible. Only one establishment ever complained about litter being deposited in their garbage can. They have since moved on.
Please don't use a grabber as a crutch or lean on it, because it will break (eventually or immediately). They cost about $16 U.S., and must be brought into Mexico from the U.S. or Canada.
It is important to keep the beach as plastic-free as possible. All roads in the area and the arroyo feed into the bay during heavy rain events. Reducing plastic litter throughout the village is very important, for the health of the bay.
Send an email to mercer.vicki@gmail.com if you would like to report the dates, hours spent, areas patrolled, and volume collected (gallon estimates are preferred). An annual report will be compiled on our collective efforts, from information that people are willing to report.
Thank you kindly.

Thankyou Vicki! I walk the beach towards Boca in the mornings and pick up litter. I will get a grabber for sure....will have find a bucket though...with a handle would be great. Any ideas? With a bucket and a grabber it will be easy to go into the village to collect!

A bucket with handles is what you need, definitely.
I think the plastics store on the road to the highway sells buckets. The store is on the right hand side (heading towards the highway), and not far from the Activos gym.
Thanks for helping!!

I picked one up yesterday and had a lovely couple of hours of picking up in the barrio. Managed to fill up a few buckets. Will work in the arroyo next. Thanks for initiating this!
