supporting our 9th and most successful year.
Because of the generous donations made by many of the “walkers”, the business sponsors and by each participating artist, the event raised 20,547 pesos after expenses (nearly double from 2016). There will be an additional expense with the purchase of a plaque in memory of Dave Sullins to be placed in the children’s after school art building.
Art Walk received a generous donation from a private donor of 1600 pesos, in memory of Dave Sullins, to go towards keeping art alive in the schools. Included in the money raised are donations from the jars set out at each venue and the sale of tee shirts.
Art Walk is a non-profit community-based organization comprised of locally-based artists and artisans. All participating members pay a fee to be part of the event. 100% of these fees, after promotional expenses, are donated to support locally-based art programs for children in La Manzanilla. The funds are used solely for the purchase of supplies and equipment and not for administrative costs or instructor fees.
This year a large number of children were involved in raising these funds. This included manufacturing Art Walk fridge magnets and personalized crafts, distribution of promotional materials, attending the donation jars, assisting visitors attending Art Walk and setting up children’s art displays at the Ejido building. Their work was co-ordinated by the La Catalina Educational Foundation, a non-profit organization that conducts after school art programs for local children and art scholarship programs in the public schools. As well, an art contest was held in each La Manzanilla school to choose a design for the 2018 Art Walk tee shirt, in which many children eagerly participated to have their work exhibited on Art Walk day.
The distribution of the net donations is as follows:
Approximately 18,000 pesos to the after school programs for the purchase of supplies and equipment and other children’s art programs. Exact amount determined after the final bills are received.
900 pesos to the winners of the tee shirt contest.
There will be an upcoming announcement regarding the application procedure for receiving the funds available for the children’s art program. 280
