"Takutsi Nakawe", is the name of Grandmother Rain, the creator of the Universe in Huichol cosmology. This beautifully animated film tells the creation story and vision of the Huichol people, an indigenous tribe living in the Sierra Madre of north central Mexico. This ancient culture is still strong after millenia of changes in Mexico. Julio Parra Parra, a Huichol Shaman will be present at the film. Subtitled in English and Spanish. Bring your Mexican neighbors!

The running time of the film is 15 mintues! I did not know this until one hour ago. There will be a discussion beforehand introducing the characters in the film. It is the creation story of humanity. Since it is short we can show it, discuss it and show it again. It is will worth watching twice. Rich in metaphor, with beautiful artwork, written and narrated by Julio and his family. Touching and inspiring.
Yes this is the creation story that was never written down until now. It is told by Julio Parra Parra and has now been made into a film. Quite an extraordinary event, and completely funded by Julio and his family. He had no outside sources of support for this. Much of the animation work was donated time. Extraordinary!
Geez, this is getting confusing. We have two threads going simultaneously. I am posting on both.
The film tonight is 15 minutes in length. It is whole and comlete in itself, and a part of a larger documentary about the Huichol people. This is their creation story and their vision for the role of humanity on the planet. It is touching and relevant. We will watch the film twice, and will have a discussion in between. We will have a discussion with Julio about each character in their cosmology. The second viewing will be more more relevant for you as a result. Thank you for coming to this event and thank you for supporting this important work. All donations this evening will be given to Julio to further his work.
What a marvelous event; the visuals were stunning; the narration, interesting and relevant; the discussion was illuminating; and the second viewing was the icing. I am so glad I was able to attend tonight. Thank you Nansee, for presenting; thank you Julio for your vision.
