Dog Report

This has been a pretty good season thanks to our spay and neuter efforts last year. I've checked on many of them and it is heartening to see them prospering! I've been taking dogs to be spayed to Melaque on a much smaller scale this year. Only 6! Not enough time or demand for a fundraiser and I dearly hope Cisco's is back in action next year. It sure has made a difference to our community as well as Los Ingenios and Rebalsito. I haven't seen the situation there, but I imagine it is out of control as last year I had a plea from Katerina, but was unable to handle dogs from outside of La Manzanilla.
Sadly there are several dog (and cat) poisonings: at the arroyo and near the Crucero. Charcoal is a first defense and I will research further options. Talking to the hardware store about customers requesting rat poison is another route to go. If any one is interested in talking to them, please do so and express your concerns that it is not only being used for rats and it is against the law in Mexico to kill dogs!
This year there is a huge number of cats and I hope there will be an effort to take some in when Pro Animal Melaque has the state of Jalisco vets come in April. If I didn't have 4 dogs that need to go to Canada in a couple of weeks, I would be involved.
There are a couple of lovely medium sized dogs that need homes. A black one on the beach who I am taking in for spaying on Saturday. I noticed a medium sized pet carrier (for dogs up to 50#) at Walmart in Manzanillo yesterday for 1190 pesos. I will be going again soon and could bring it on the bus if anyone needs one!

Here's a photo of the black dog who has been playing with our dog Zappy the last couple of weeks. She's a lovely lively dig who seems quite smart and could be easily trained by a new owner.

I have noted that she is certainly better fed than when first I met her. Now, however, the spaying issue must come up. Norma, is this the one you are taking in? If not, I will find a way to have her spayed before I leave in a couple of months.
She would be a marvelous candidate for adopting, sweet-natured as she is. Any takers?

Yes indeed she is the lucky dog who is going in on Saturday for spaying. If someone could get her on their ticket to Canada, I would be prepared to rehome her. Last year the extra dogs that I took back, I added up all the costs and got reimbursed by the new owner. The first step is seeing if there is room on the plane. It costs $75 and can be cancelled fully refundable to credit card. I will chip in for the crate which I could bring on the bus from Walmart next week. No room on my flight as I have 4 dogs and overnight in Calgary. She is a lovely smart dog and will be homeless when weall leave in a month or so.

She is truly lovely & smart! I've been very tempted to take her on but don't see how it could work with some long term travel that I'll be doing. At minimum, I'd like to sponsor her. I'd be happy to pay for her spay, wellness check, vaccines & crate to get her to Canada.

Jocelyn, you are so lovely to want the best for this dear dog. What we need is someone willing to transport her to Comox or Vancouver or Victoria or Nanaimo and I will find her a good home on Denman Island. I am going to call Westjet and see if there are any flights from Manzanillo. I suspect not, but people do cancel. I think there is most likely room from Puerto Vallarta, but that is problematic getting there! Or if anyone is driving? I will buy that crate on Wednesday.

Hello, there is a big dog tied on short tether on the roof across from Casa Luz where I am staying. He is ALWAYS there. He cries, gets no exercise. I have not located the Mexican family who lives there. Address is # 78 or 79.
