La Manzanilla Message Board: snakes on the beach

In late May, My wife Rosemarie and I were walking along the beach at Boca. We ran into three of what we thought were eels stranded on the beach and tried to rescue them. See attached photos. Turns out they were "Yellow Bellied Sea Snakes", very common in the open ocean & 10 times more venomous than a cobra. They are supposedly not aggressive, but one certainly tried to bite me when I tried to pick it up by the tail. A word to the wise.

We've been spending a month in Art and Trudy's place (Casa Tortuga) every spring or summer for many years, but this is the first time we've seen these critters.
