The issue with gasoline these days is that has become more and more refined, and thus 'drier'. In the old days, when a bit of gas was spilled on the garage floor, it left an oil stain. Now, it evaporates immediately to nothing.
This lack of 'lube' in the fuel causes wear on the intake system - the valves and cylinder head, especially in small motors.
