the day and time and then empty the Fing rain gauge. Then after the next big rain
event repeat that process. 
One could even sit out next to the rain gauge with an umbrella and keep track
of exactly how much rain we got per hour etc. But you would have to be careful
that the umbrella did not cover the rain gauge or that the umbrella does not
drain into the rain gauge or that would throw off the accuracy.
