Communitarianism

What a wonderful way to give to the elders in our community! I know Sofia and Guadeloupe, Everado and Cata and they are all so deserving and humble. And Jose is still proudly working at 86 years of age! Communitarian spirit involving young and old, locals and long term north of the border folks as well as newcomers and visitors. The organizers have a vision to counteract capitalist values! I remember being imprinted with this philosophy as a 14 year old seeing the Beatles in Toronto in 1966 with their song "Can't Buy Me Love"
It is so wonderful to see this group help out the elders of the community! There is a long standing belief that there are "others" who come forward to help these individuals....NOT in all cases. Some fall through the cracks, as in every system, or they have no family or friends that can come forward to pay expenses!
Sophia and Guadalupe have been my neighbors since I built my house in 2004. They were kind and generous and he helped out where he could with the odd job! Always financially strapped, the neighbors, in his later years, pooled together resources when all other avenues failed! That lasted until a year and a half ago when he was able to find a bed in the old folks home in Zihuatlan...and she has followed. The amount to keep them there is 4,000 pesos per month!
So when thinking of sponsoring someone for this event, give heartily...and know an older person is receiving better care through your donation!
