Big Water Meeting Friday Feb. 23 - 12 noon
Posted by David Dagoli on February 20, 2018, 12:11 pm
A crisis is looming for our town's fresh water system. Morgan, the system manager, is calling for a meeting of residents to discuss the problem. Top of the list is the requirement of a new and better pump. There will be an English translator at the meeting. | ------------------------thanks David.

Hopefully the hall will be filled. Numbers speak volumes. The Delegado is apparently getting the message. If you don't have a water issue now, you likely will at some point. Population growth, lack of conservation, and a failing infrastructure will exhaust an already strained resource. Bring money if you haven't paid your water bill. This is the stuff needed to buy equipment. | ------------------------Re: meeting location

Make sure someone mentions storage tanks on the mountain like they had in the past. This is not just a pump issue but includes the storage issue, management issue, not metered issue, lack of water conservation and poor usage habits, lack of rain catchment systems for all homes and businesses etc. | ------------------------Re: meeting location

Friday's discussion will likely focus on the need for a new pump and means to get the pesos needed to buy it. Hopefully though, it may set the stage for future planning on water resource management and delivery systems. What are likely givens here: 1. There is likely lots of available water nearby given the vast wetlands north of town. 2. The infrastructure for water delivery is insufficient to provide adequate water to the town. 3. The town's population and water demands will continue to grow. 4. The water system is managed by one person who does not have the money, resources, or community support to provide an adequate system. 5. There is little, if any, government funding for water management. There is no formal means to raise funds locally except through volunteer collection methods, which does not work well. Small towns like this around the world often have community-based water management boards that determine sources of funding, infrastructure needs, implemtation of delivery systems, and water conservation programs. My lack of knowledge in this area prevent any suggestions on how this might be done, but I do think it worthy of ongoing public debate. | ------------------------Re: meeting location

How about we all listen to what the "locals" have to say at this upcoming meeting before we in the "visitor" sector assume what is "likely" needed...then support them in whatever fashion we can to insure both the infrastructure and maintainence can be achieved. Just saying! | ------------------------Re: meeting location

Don't forget to mention the gringo who waters the street at puesta del sol hotel. Also the leak at the corner there and at the arroyo by Helga's drive. | ------------------------Re: meeting location

And it should be noted that some are taking more than their share. My neighbour built a second water storage under the public road for his 4 apartments. | ------------------------Re: Big Water Meeting Friday Feb. 23 - 12 noon

Okay, chris schlear, you've made your statement, twice. This begs the question: Why are you here? Additionally, Folks, I'll be happy to take donations to buy cs a ticket out of this town, out of this country. Finally, cs, could you be at least a bit original in your use of what I'm supposing is your native language? | ------------------------
