Youth Garden

Davison and Miguel, I would appreciate it if an agenda for the Youth Garden community meeting (March 1 – 4pm) is posted on the message board prior to the meeting. Even more importantly, on behalf of transparency for those who have been past and may choose to be prospective financial stakeholders in the garden from both La Manzanilla and our communities back home, it is important that we review some quantitative data. I would like to see a projected line item budget for the 2017-18 garden and an income to expense statement from the fundraiser held earlier this month (similar to the easy-to-read one posted by the Bocce Tournament). I’m posting this now to give you a few days to get the requested info on the message board, which would allow the community a bit of time to review it prior to the meeting. Thank you. I also wish to publicly acknowledge Peter Earley (and Lynda) for his (and her) years of boundless energy and dedication to the garden and youth in our Mexican community. For those of you who don’t know, for many years Peter’s prioritization of life in La Manz was “our garden.” I believe Peter did not intend to retire, as he loved what he was doing and wished to continue such. If it wasn’t for Peter’s steadfast efforts and daily hard work in our garden, I am quite certain the garden would not exist today.

Peter is the one who got me involved in bringing my compost to the youth garden and buying the veggies at the Friday market. I really can't imagine the garden without him, unless he chooses to retire. I also would like to see a simple, clear explanation of money in and money out. PS: we are looking forward to the fundraiser a week from Friday, 5 - 7, at magnolias' Thanks in advance, Alex, for your initiative.

We regularly saw Peter in the heat of the afternoon, with trusty wheel barrow, working tirelessly to prepare everything in the garden, for the students for the next day. He worked himself to the point of exhaustion, but always stopped to chat, with a cheerful smile and positive outlook. Many thanks to Peter & Lynda for the invaluable role that you've played in advancing the education of the students and making the garden really flourish!! | ------------------------Re: Youth Garden
