Usually about 4 times a week I fish in the surf using a hand line (a 30lb test line wrapped around a 4" piece of pvc with a sliding sinker, a hook, and a sardine). I usually catch enough fish to have enough to eat and share with many of my Mexican neighbors. Although I have a very nice spinning rod and real the hand line actually works better for me. Holding the line between your fingers you can feel every little nibble which is not always the case when there is a rod between you and the fish.
