Wow, SO pleasantly surprised yesterday at Manzanillo's immigration office where we not only went to renew our FM3 but change our address as well for all 3 of us, June, Lyle and I. We did a little research to make doubly sure we had the paperwork in order such as bank account information, copies of this and that. So, we were in the frame of mind that we would just drop things off and wait the requisite 2, 3 weeks, perhaps 30 days. The lady showed us the renewal application that we were supposed to have downloaded from the internet and we were supposed to have filled out when we got there. She did it for us this year. She then showed us the letter that we are supposed to have written, by ourselves, every year after this one but she did it for us. She then gave us the paperwork to take to Banjercito to pay for the renewal. When we got back to the immigration office we were told to hold on and the FM3 renewal would be completely done right then and there. What? Sure enough, right then and there. No return trip, no stumbling blocks, no pain, no kidding. So, it can work. Maybe this is the norm but it is not what I have heard is normal.
