We travel with our dog as well. Usually we leave for Laredo early in the morning from Guadalajara. It's possible to arrive in Monterrey in one day, but we don't seem to get there until around 6 or 7 pm, and we have yet to find a place to stay there. (we've tried... after a long drive, driving through the streets of Monterrey at dusk, looking for a hotel that will accept a dog, even after you bribe them is no fun.... and if you do find one, sleeping in the car is a better choice that the hotel room). The last drive, we took the perimeter road around the city Monterrey to Larado and after you do that, there is Nothing... it takes at least 3 hours to the border. The actual drive from La Manzanilla to Larado, is longer than 10 hours - more like 14 or 16 hours (if you don't get lost, which you should plan for, 'cause it happens very easily). And, if there is a Love Motel along that Monterrey to Laredo road, I have not seen it. Anyone know if there is one? The ideal thing would be to find a place just before or after Monterrey - as that last 3 or 4 hour drive to the border in the night is not recommended - and arrive at the Laredo crossing mid-morning. I have known people, traveling with dogs to catch a few winks in their cars, at a Pemex parking lot.... because there isn't anyplace to go, hotel or otherwise. So, if anyone specifically knows of a love hotel, on the road from Monterry to Laredo - hwy.85, please let us know! Thanks.
