Hey D, like all things cool the entire culture goes way back to good old SO. California...Richie Valens, the Pachuco culture that started back before WW II. Those gangs needed music for identity.

So the gringo's had Woody Guthrie singing about the exploits of Pretty Boy Floyd. also an Okie and against the big capitalists, oil robber barons in Tulsa..etc.

Now you have gangsta rap and narcocorridos: the famoius song of the "cuerno de chivo" which has a theme of the poor downtrodden guy whose rise to power over the PAN, PRI and all those other political groups keeping him down...the AK47 will fix all that!!

I met a writer here in town who got his PHD in sociology at UTEP by hanging out in bars in Juarez with both the musicians and the kids who buy the CD's and attend narcocorrido concerts...it is a real big deal up here in the border towns. His book was pretty interesting but times are again changing and probably soon most of the ostrich silver tip boots and $$$ western shirts with Santa Muerte embroidered on the back will give way to Armani suits and Gucci shoes...got more class! bink

In Mexico, its possession is of the exclusive use of the Mexican National Army. The federal firearms and explosives law prohibits the civilian possession of this category of weapon in its Article 11. However, the AK-47, known as cuerno de chivo (Spanish for "goat's horn"), is widely used by criminal organizations.

By the way here's the perfect car to drive down the freeway (cuota)
