For beaches, you can visit La Vena here on Tenacatita Bay. Up the coast, the unpopulated El Tecuan, or the village of Arroyo Seco, which has developed into a popular surfing spot. For cultural trips, consider the village of El Pinal, near Melaque, which has interesting murals and the indigenous village of Cozulapa about 3 hours up into the mountains for art and a farmer's coop. Nearer Vallarta, the dam at Canon de Penas has a beautiful lake and delicious fish. A longer 5 hour trip gets you to the shrine city of Talpa. You can also charter fishing trips from the La Manz beach. |
