When we lived in Dallas Texas in Oak Cliff we were ducking bullets all the time (2001). Drive by shootings were not uncommon. Rape and murder of elederly females in their homes was a plague at the time an not even reported on the news. That city averages 360 murders a year.

We moved to Salt Lake City and shortly after they had a psycho enter Trolly Square shopping Center and he killed several people.... but granted the over all murder rate for the whole state of Utah is only 90 per year.. a big improvement over Dallas.

There is trouble where ever you go these days. I think I rather take my chances at an ancient Mayan ruin or under a palm tree on the Carribean coast than touring many of the popular cities of the USA.
